I am Kandron Jones, a Virginia born, Miami based attorney and business operations consultant. I help small business owners set up systems and processes to start and run efficient, streamlined businesses. Together we explore areas such as automation, templates, email marketing, and more.
I specialize in helping attorneys build businesses to supplement or replace their legal careers. I have also developed resources for creative entrepreneurs who want to add structure and legitimacy to their businesses. I have 15 years of experience in industries including fashion, legal, and compliance.
A LEGAL CAREER
I didn’t have a traditional legal career. I went to law school to fulfill a promise to my mom and my 10 year old self, after taking after an exciting gap year in Atlanta. Then, I graduated in the middle of the great recession and was rejected for countless underpaying jobs. Seriously, I could not have afforded to live in a high cost of living city with those salaries, even if had gotten one of the jobs. That meant I had to get creative AND FAST.
After passing the Florida bar, I found ways to develop new experiences in an existing business. I helped to open a niche e-discovery business in downtown Miami. In addition to working as a team lead and contract attorney, I helped roll out a specialty analytics service, which resulted was reduced labor costs, more efficient services, and flexible teams for shortened delivery times for Fortune 500 clients. I also created workflows and operating infrastructure, including ethical standards and training materials. In my 5 years, I trained hundreds of contract attorneys and salespeople in effectively using the company’s complex proprietary software.
I also capitalized on the flexibility of my contract gig to plant the seeds of a consulting business, which served as an incubator for the methods I use today. I lived in walking distance to Wynwood, which quickly became Miami’s creative core. I wrote contracts for and consulted with creators as they started their own fashion businesses. I also informally advised many of my fellow contract attorneys over brunch, lunch, and coffee.
Then, I started my own product based business, an online consignment store. I love thrifting and realized I had access to the closets of all types of attorneys. So I leveraged my friendships and started a fashion business which I suppose is not surprising because…
RETAIL WAS MY JAM
I LOVED working retail, the pay and the hours were just trash. Over the years I opened, staffed, and created the internal guidelines for new retail locations. In 10 years, I saw every part of the business life cycle, from opening new locations, to operating popular sites, and liquidating dying stores. I learned how to respond to a changing retail environment and that each has a different set of processes.
AND NOW…
I am currently working as a Senior Compliance Analyst in a global financial institution, where I conduct complex money laundering and fraud investigations. I serve as a global project manager for investigations with international touch points. I also volunteer with SCORE which resources entrepreneurs through the Small Business Administration (SBA). In my downtime, I love to travel and cook. I chronicle my food adventures on a site called “Kan Can Cook.”
