Books

Reading more has absolutely changed the game for me. Here is the link to my book list. Pick something and get started. I’ll be honest, i didn’t LOVE all of these books. Some are here as resources, not for enjoyment.

  • You Are A Badass At Making Money
  • The War of Art
  • What I Know For Sure (Oprah): Reading this book at the end of 2020 changed the trajectory of my 2021. It was simple and so clear, especially about making intentions.
  • Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking (Susan Cain): If you are an introvert, this is required reading. I had so many lightbulb moments about my behavior and how I interact with the world. It also shed an incredible amount of light on my childhood.
  • Year of Yes (Shonda Rhimes): I loved this book so much I bought a physical copy after reading it on my Kindle. It’s all about embracing your power and broadening horizons. Loved it!
  • Finding Your Own North Star (Martha Beck): This wasn’t my favorite read but it is heavily referenced so I thought I would go back to the source. It’s an OG in figuring your life out.
  • Becoming (Michelle Obama): Michelle Obama is not only an example of excellence, but an example of how to pivot with grace. A very compelling read.
  • 7 Habits of Highly Effective People (Steven Covey): This is another one of those reference books. I didn’t like the writing… it was a little heavy handed on acronyms and “paradigms” for my taste. The 7 habits themselves are a really good foundation.

And because I also happen to believe fiction is super important too,

Podcasts

If you’re on my mailing list, you know podcasts are also among my favorite resources.

Inspiration

I love coffee table books for inspiration

  • Supreme Models: Black Models Galore! It has interviews from black models from every generation. LOVE!!
  • Rihanna: This book is ENORMOUS and I love it! Rihanna is such a chameleon – who better to be in technicolor?!?
  • Tom Ford: Chile this is the millennial classic.
  • Dries Van Noten: It’s just a beautiful fashion book
  • Gucci: The inset in this book really make it come to life. It is absolutely gorgeous
  • Vintage Black Glamour: I have the 2 book series and it is just stunning photo after stunning photo.
  • Hollywood Black: I have always loved old movies so a book that focuses exclusively on black stars is right up my alley.

Pandemic Purchases

Being in the house more made home essentials like batteries, lightbulbs, and good pillows absolutely necessary. Here are a few more of my random finds:

  • Steam Mop: I absolutely love my steam mop. It makes mopping so easy when you don’t have to drag around a bucket.
  • Oil Diffuser: Nothing makes your house feel like home like fragrance. A diffuser is a perfect way to lift the energy in your home, while also adjusting your own mood.
  • Notebooks: Inspiration has come in waves. I’ve bought all kinds of stationary including my favorite grid notebook, and many of my favorite pens. I’m in the house and still can’t manage to keep my hands on pens.
  • Phone Stand: All the live videos during the pandemic got me thinking that MAYBE I should join the fun. We’ll see if the mood strikes
  • Face Shields: as I gear up for post vaccination travel. I can’t wait to put these to good use.
