I LOVE podcasts. They help me pass very long days. Of course I listen to some business podcasts (The Accidental Creative is my fav), but largely I listen to light hearted or black culture podcasts to get me through. Every now and then, my worlds collide and I get business advice from my favorite entertainment podcasts. “Catch This Word” will highlight inspiration in unexpected places.
First up, Vanessa Williams on Bevy Says. I absolutely love Bevy Says as Bevy lays it all on the line. So while I’m not surprised that I found inspiration on the podcast, I didn’t see this particular message coming from Vanessa Williams. My favorite quotes:
Re: Being fired from Melrose’s place:
“I realized if I allowed whether I was working or not to be the testament to my value as an artist I was going to be in big trouble.” I MEEEEEAN!!! This resonated with me because I was sitting at a job I hated at that moment. That job had beat me down and made me question my value and abilities. I needed to hear this to remember my talents and worth were not contingent upon the position I held.
Re: Discovering your purpose:
“Give yourself permission to be creative… you’re here on purpose” So many of us have suppressed our creative with school and work, but it is in there. We just have to make time to let it rise to the surface.
Listen to the whole episode here. If you start at the 24:00 mark and go just to 30:00, it is EVERYTHING. Of course, the entire episode is a worthwhile listen, and Vanessa Williams’ voice is such a lush experience.
